Gelasma

Gelasma RF71

Gelasma” is a 42’ sloop, built by Arthur Bishop in Cottesloe, WA in 1951.

She was built for former Rhodes Scholar and engineer Dr Gordon Barrett-Hill, and has been penned at Royal Freshwater Bay Yacht Club, Perth WA, for her entire life.

Keith Clifford, who was the shipwright at RFBYC for over 30 years, sailed on Gelasma from the time of her launching, and when Gordon was no longer able to sail, he passed her on to Keith.

Keith continually upgraded and maintained the vessel and substantial work was undertaken between 2014 and 2016, when she was re-powered, her deck was re-sheathed and exterior timber was re-varnished. With Keith’s passing, it is time to find “Gelasma” a new custodian.

Gelasma has been raced with considerable success on both the ocean and Swan River, and is now used for weekend racing and social sailing on the Swan River. She has entertained thousands of guests over the years, and comes with a wonderful photographic history from her build, to her launching and early ocean races.
