When I made our annual Tasmanian trip to Drew on that states beautiful wooden boats in the 1970's, I spied this really nice pretty packet on moorings at Port Sorell on Tasmania's north coast.

Although she looks like a little couta boat she is in fact a traditional Tassie boat built by, no less the famous Ned Jack on the Tamar river at Launceston.

Cheviot 32 #1 "Rough Up"

Rough Up was the first of the Cheviot 32 range of boats built at Sorrento by the Wooden Boat Shop. Based on the round bilge semi planning American Lobster boats, Rough Up cruises comfortably at 15 knots and has a top speed of over 22 knots.

One of the finest examples of an original Queenscliff style Couta Boats going around today.

Pearl was built by Peter Locke in Queenscliff circa 1929.
In the 1980s she was purchased by Denis Horne and James Mighell who had her meticulously restored (and optimised /tuned for Couta Boat racing).

She is a consistent performer and her race record in both the Couta Boat Club, and at SSCBC is much envied.
